For Halloween, I’m analyzing the sound design in the first Five Nights at Freddy’s game, which demonstrates the unique roles audio can play in a horror game! Sound isn’t just a scare tactic; it can support or diminish the amount of control a player feels over a nightmarish scenario.
Thanks to my friend Wolfgang for help editing the script!

04.04.2022So if the game's audio is a problem, just play it muted. Yep, just found out how to make Fnfa 0% scary now.

04.04.2022I wonder if developers still get jumpscares after developing this game for years🤔🤔

27.03.2022Great video! I watched tons of FNAF gameplay back when Markiplier first did his let’s play, tons of childhood nostalgia. Super cool to have the original game broken down into why it stood out amongst a sea of jumpscare horror games at the time, all these years later.

27.03.2022thank you for the jumpscare warning
i can’t really handle sudden jumpscares (makes me wonder why i love horror games so much) so the warning before you play it is genuinely very helpful

25.03.2022I keep rewatching this video so many times. I guess that tells how good it is.
Edit: I just wished the game had a slower pace and incentivised the player to use the cameras a bit more. Instead you feel like you are penalised for using it and by doing so the player misses out on a lot of atmosphere.
FailLincs
25.03.2022This game is still terrifying, a little less now, but still the atmosphere is perfect in this first game

24.03.2022Oh my god that instrument hit when you were demonstrating bonnie or chica being in the doorway made me instinctively move my mouse to hit the door button
It's been 4 years since I last played fnaf

24.03.2022One thing I tend to use to my advantage is that there is a distinct footstep sound that begins once an animatronic makes it into the hall and begins to move around that area. The footsteps will become loud and the other red herring sounds will become a bit quiet when an animatronic is standing right outside your door.

24.03.2022Ive made fangames and the way i make the noises for the jumpscares is weird. I add a bit of AAAAAA to make it a jumpscare. Then i add a gggggg for the mechanical whirring. Then i take those noises, cut the best sounding part, loop it six times and it sounds horrifying

23.03.20225:23 is in the trailer of the game by scott and every time the text cuts to bonnie it played that sound and it sounds exactly like the door lights when bonnie and chica are there just sped ur so i think ur right
Jill Bratton
23.03.2022At 7:37 the noise is actually helping you cus it only plays when the animtronics are close it's called ambiance 2 and at 8:00 the noise means the animtronics are moving. The dum dum bipidy dum is when foxy is about to attack
